The MTD 746P06431 Lawn Tractor Throttle/Choke Cable provides mechanical control between the operator's lever and the engine throttle or choke mechanism, supporting starting and engine-speed adjustment.

\n

Common Symptoms:

\n

• Throttle lever response becomes delayed.

\n

• Choke does not fully engage.

\n

• Cable movement feels stiff.

\n

• Engine speed fails to follow control changes.

\n

• Cable housing shows visible damage.

\n

Delayed Throttle Response

\n

Quick Check: Move the throttle control and observe whether the engine responds immediately through the cable's full travel.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the cable routing for sharp bends, binding, or interference restricting normal movement.

\n

Prevention Tip: Keep the cable correctly routed and away from hot or moving engine components.

\n

Choke Fails to Engage

\n

Quick Check: Move the choke control and verify that the connected choke mechanism reaches its intended position.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the cable ends and routing for looseness, restricted travel, or incorrect positioning.

\n

Prevention Tip: Check choke cable movement before starting the lawn tractor during cold-engine operation.

\n

Stiff Cable Movement

\n

Quick Check: Operate the control slowly and note whether the cable requires unusual force or moves unevenly.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the cable housing for kinks, crushed sections, contamination, or routing problems that restrict travel.

\n

Prevention Tip: Avoid tight bends and maintain smooth cable routing during lawn tractor service.

\n

Inconsistent Engine Speed

\n

Quick Check: Move the throttle control through its range and observe whether engine speed follows the selected position.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Check cable travel and attachment points for looseness, restricted movement, or incorrect adjustment.

\n

Prevention Tip: Inspect the throttle control cable whenever engine-speed response becomes inconsistent.

\n

Customer Experience: Few users noted that after installing the MTD 746P06431 Lawn Tractor Throttle/Choke Cable restored smoother control movement and more predictable throttle and choke response during regular tractor operation.
