The Craftsman 918-06978 Lawn Tractor Mandrel Assembly supports the mower deck blade spindle system, maintaining the blade shaft in its intended position. Wear or damage can affect blade rotation and cutting performance.

\n

Common Symptoms:

• Mower blade wobbles during operation.

\n

• Mandrel produces excessive noise.

\n

• Blade rotation becomes rough.

\n

• Mandrel shaft shows excessive play.

\n

• Deck cutting performance becomes uneven.

\n

Blade Wobble

\n

Quick Check: With the engine off and blades stationary, inspect the blade for noticeable side-to-side movement at the 918-06978 mandrel.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the mandrel assembly and mounting area for looseness or worn components, then secure serviceable hardware as appropriate.

\n

Prevention Tip: Check blade and mandrel movement periodically before operating the mower.

\n

Mandrel Noise

\n

Quick Check: Listen for grinding, rumbling, or unusual noise originating from the mandrel area during operation.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the 918-06978 assembly for wear or damage and address the affected mandrel components.

\n

Prevention Tip: Investigate new spindle-area noises early rather than continuing operation with abnormal sounds.

\n

Rough Blade Rotation

\n

Quick Check: With the engine off and the deck safely secured, check whether the blade rotates smoothly without unusual resistance or roughness.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the mandrel assembly for damaged or worn components that may interfere with smooth shaft rotation.

\n

Prevention Tip: Keep the deck spindle area free from accumulated grass and debris.

\n

Excessive Shaft Play

\n

Quick Check: Check for abnormal movement at the blade and mandrel shaft with the mower safely shut down.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the 918-06978 mandrel for worn bearings or other internal wear and replace the affected serviceable component when necessary.

\n

Prevention Tip: Address developing spindle looseness before it causes additional blade or deck problems.

\n

Customer Experience: The Craftsman 918-06978 Lawn Tractor Mandrel Assembly helped eliminate spindle-area vibration and provided steadier blade rotation during mowing.
