The Powermatic PM9-PWBS14-181 Band Saw Switch is an OEM electrical control component used on compatible Powermatic PWBS-14 series band saws. This switch assembly controls power delivery between the incoming power source and the saw motor, enabling safe startup and shutdown operation. OEM diagrams for PWBS-14 models list the PM9-PWBS14-181 as the factory switch component within the switch enclosure assembly.

\n

Common Symptoms:

\n

• Band saw will not power on.

\n

• Motor starts only intermittently.

\n

• Switch feels loose or unresponsive.

\n

• Saw shuts off unexpectedly during operation.

\n

• Burning smell or heat near switch enclosure.

\n

Band Saw Will Not Start

\n

Quick Check: Verify incoming power is present and inspect whether the switch clicks normally when pressed.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the PM9-PWBS14-181 switch contacts for wear or electrical failure, Confirm wiring terminals are securely connected inside the switch enclosure.

\n

Prevention Tip: Avoid excessive dust buildup around the switch housing to reduce electrical contamination.

\n

Intermittent Power Loss During Cutting

\n

Quick Check: Observe whether the saw cuts out when vibration increases under load.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Tighten all wire connections attached to the switch assembly, replace the switch if internal contacts are worn or overheating.

\n

Prevention Tip: Periodically inspect switch terminals during routine electrical maintenance.

\n

Switch Feels Stiff or Does Not Engage Properly

\n

Quick Check: Press the start and stop controls repeatedly to check for sticking or delayed response.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the switch mechanism for dust intrusion or damaged internal components, replace the PM9-PWBS14-181 if mechanical engagement becomes unreliable.

\n

Prevention Tip: Keep the switch enclosure sealed and clean to minimize fine dust contamination.

\n

Burning Smell Near Switch Housing

\n

Quick Check: Disconnect power immediately and inspect for discoloration or heat damage around terminals.

\n

Fix Suggestion: Replace damaged wiring connectors and inspect the switch for overheated contacts, install a new switch assembly if melting or scorching is present.

\n

Prevention Tip: Ensure the saw is connected to the correct voltage configuration before operation.

\n

Customer Experience: Replacing the switch solved my intermittent startup problem immediately.
