The Kohler 1709811-S Engine electric starter motor with a Bendix drive that is used to start engines used in outdoor power goods. When the ignition key is turned the starter motor rotates and the Bendix drive mechanism mashes the starter pinion gear with the flywheel of the engine. This enables the starter to turn the engine until it starts to run on its power source. Once the engine is running, the Bendix drive releases the pinion gear and avoids over-spinning and damaging the starter.
