BRIGGS & STRATTON 491029 Engine Carburetor

The BRIGGS & STRATTON 491029 Engine Carburetor meters fuel and air entering the engine, supporting the mixture required for ignition, idle operation, acceleration, and steady lawn tractor use.

Symptoms This Part Can Address:

• Engine requires repeated starting attempts.

• Idle speed rises and drops unexpectedly.

• Engine hesitates when throttle increases.

• Engine stalls shortly after starting.

• Fuel mixture becomes difficult to regulate.

Difficult Engine Starting

Quick Check: Observe whether the engine needs several attempts before it remains running.

Fix Suggestion: Inspect the carburetor for restricted fuel passages or internal deposits that may interfere with fuel delivery.

Prevention Tip: Keep the fuel supply clean and follow recommended fuel-storage practices.

Unstable Idle Speed

Quick Check: Let the engine run at idle and listen for repeated changes in engine speed.

Fix Suggestion: Check the carburetor for contamination affecting fuel and air metering, then service or renew the affected component as appropriate.

Prevention Tip: Prevent dirt and moisture from entering the fuel system during maintenance.

Throttle Hesitation

Quick Check: Increase engine speed gradually and watch for delayed engine response.

Fix Suggestion: Examine the carburetor's fuel passages and metering areas for restrictions affecting acceleration.

Prevention Tip: Use clean fuel and maintain the fuel system according to the engine service schedule.

Engine Stalling

Quick Check: Monitor whether the engine shuts down after starting or during normal operation.

Fix Suggestion: Check for fuel-flow restrictions within the carburetor and address any contamination or internal wear.

Prevention Tip: Avoid leaving untreated fuel in the system for extended periods.

Customer Experience: A lawn tractor owner fitted the 491029 carburetor and noticed smoother throttle response during regular engine operation.
